 Refreshments and check-in start one half hour before each training.

Union representatives are often available with information and to answer your questions about union benefits before each class.

BATHING & GROOMING – 3 ½ hours

Personal care activities such as bathing, shaving, skin care and grooming using person-centered values and techniques.

BLINDNESS & LOW VISION – 3 hours

Vision, common eye conditions, being a sighted guide, resources and adaptive equipment for use in the home setting.

CHALLENGING BEHAVIORS – 3 hours

Practical information about cognitive issues and challenging behaviors, the causes, understanding the problems, and communication ideas.

KEEPING IT PROFESSIONAL – 3 ½ hours
Setting professional boundaries, when and how to keep things confidential and recordkeeping tips.

MONEYWISE – 3 hours
Goal setting, budgeting, and resources for managing your money. 
(This class is for homecare workers’ personal use, NOT for helping employers with finances)

PROTECT AGAINST SPRAINS AND STRAINS – 3 ½ hours
Basic principles of body mechanics and making changes in work activities to protect yourself and others.

PREVENTING DISEASE TRANSMISSION – 2 hours
Universal precautions, infection control, and housekeeping practices.

RESPIRATORY CARE: OXYGEN TO VENTILATORS – 3 ½ hours
End-stage respiratory diseases, basics on the use of oxygen, nebulizers, & ventilators.

Stress Management And Relaxation Techniques

Learn fun and practical ways of dealing with stress and how to relax.

T.   R.   I.   P.   S. – 3 hours
Taking Responsibility In Personal Safety
Preventing injuries from slips and trips, safe driving tips, & preparing for emergencies.

WORKING TOGETHER – 3 hours
Communicating needs, interviewing, sharing expectations, and problem solving.

SAFETY FIRST

Do you practice safety on the job?  Protecting yourself as well as your employer is important!
Here are a few tips:

• Use gloves and protective equipment when handing chemical substances or blood &/or body fluids
• Know your emergency evacuation escape routes
• Don’t use broken equipment
• Make sure smoke detectors are in place and are working
• Use ladders instead of chairs if you need to reach high places
• Lift safely
• Wear sturdy shoes
• Keep floors free of tripping hazards, such as cords, non-secured rugs, or clutter
