SAFETY FIRST

Do you practice safety on the job?  Protecting yourself as well as your employer is important!
Here are a few tips:

  • Use gloves and protective equipment when handing chemical substances or blood &/or body fluids
  • Know your emergency evacuation escape routes
  • Don’t use broken equipment
  • Make sure smoke detectors are in place and are working
  • Use ladders instead of chairs if you need to reach high places
  • Lift safely
  • Wear sturdy shoes
  • Keep floors free of tripping hazards, such as cords, non-secured rugs, or clutter

Please share this training newsletter with your employers and their families. They are always welcome to attend any training.

For information about training for consumers on their responsibilities and rights as employers, call the State Independent Living Council at:
1-877-277-0513

PLEASE NOTE:

  • If you miss more than 15 minutes of a training, your pay will be adjusted and the training will be considered “incomplete” and will not be on your training history.
  • When you attend training, you are paid out of the vendor system, not the provider pay system.  So your information has to be entered again and your tax ID (your social security number) has to be verified.  You will receive a form W9, which must be filled out and returned. The state allows a grace period to allow you to return the form, but when that has expired, you will be locked out of receiving any more checks until the form is signed and returned.
  • It takes a few weeks to process the training payments, so allow about 4 weeks to receive your check – although you may likely get it much sooner.
